Big week for cannabis policy, and Jerry Millen from The Greenhouse was right in the middle of it.
Jerry joined Fox 2 Detroit’s Roop Raj on April 24th to break down the federal government’s move to reschedule marijuana from a Schedule I narcotic to Schedule III — and what it actually means for patients, businesses, and the future of the industry.
Here’s the short version: on April 28, 2026, the DEA placed FDA-approved marijuana products and state-licensed medical marijuana — like what we carry here at The Greenhouse — into Schedule III of the Controlled Substances Act. That’s a meaningful shift. Schedule III substances are recognized as having an accepted medical use and a lower potential for abuse than Schedule I drugs, the category marijuana had been lumped into since 1970. It also opens the door to expanded research and could ease some of the tax burden cannabis businesses face under federal law.
Recreational cannabis isn’t part of this change and stays classified as Schedule I for now — but a broader DEA hearing is scheduled for June 29th that could reshape things further. We’ll keep you posted as it plays out.
